Society is becoming more and more tolerant of the so-called “sexual minorities,” and more specifically, people experiencing sexual attraction to members of the same sex. But this variety is not always good.
Failure to understand it leads to the emergence of new myths about homosexuality and does not make it possible to completely debunk the old ones invented by our grandparents. They are still alive and many believe in them. Let's try to deal with them.
10. Homosexuals make up 10% of the total population
This percentage is slightly higher and according to some studies is about 35%.
9. There is a separation of male and female roles
This myth is rather inspired by films in which homosexuals are presented too feminine and mannered. In fact, this division does not always exist and is not so pronounced.
8. Homosexuality is a mental illness.
This is not true, since not a single homosexual has yet been cured or re-educated without prejudice to his health and quality of life.
7. Gays attracted to all members of their gender
Nothing of the kind, because if a man is heterosexual, then he will not get to know and enter into relationships with every first woman that comes across (well, as a rule). And here it’s the same, someone likes it, someone doesn’t, someone is unpleasant, and someone causes sexual attraction.
6. The church hates homosexuals
This is not entirely true. The Church condemns any manifestations of excesses that are considered sin, this list is not limited to same-sex relationships.
5. Homosexuality is the norm, as it occurs among animals
In this case, a comparison with animals is not only not correct, but even in some ways offensive. Indeed, in the animal world these manifestations are associated with the dominance of one individual over another. People in this situation should be guided by other motives.
4. Gays are not born
This is not true, they are just born, and their percentage is approximately the same in different eras - regardless of censure by the church, prosecution by law or vice versa, propaganda.
3. Homophobes are latent homosexuals
This is nothing more than one of the theories that has been thoroughly studied, but has not received confirmation. On the contrary, after its refutation, another, opposite theory was put forward, on the basis of which just people who are interested and positive about same-sex couples are suspected of latent homosexuality.
2. The relationship of a gay couple is stronger than that of a heterosexual
This is not so, same-sex couples also have conflicts, betrayals, partings and divorces, because relationships must be built with a specific person, with certain weaknesses and shortcomings.
1. Gays adversely affect children
It is important to understand that with pedophilia homosexuality has as much in common as heterosexuality. In other words, the likelihood that a gay will be interested in a boy is no higher than that a heterosexual will be interested in a girl. As for very frank manifestations of feelings in the presence of children, this is equally unacceptable and indecent for both heterosexual and homosexual couples.
